Once in a small Indian village a son was born to the Great Chief Soaring Eagle. Soaring Eagle and his wife, Silver Cloud, named him White Wolf. Nine months later a daughter was born to Soaring Eagle. Soaring Eagle and Silver Cloud named her Sunshine.
When White Wolf was four he practised counting to five, “1, 2, 3, 4, 5”. When White Wolf was eight he was allowed to go on a rabbit hunt with his dad, Soaring Eagle.
One day the village had nothing to eat. It was up to Soaring Eagle and the hunters. White Wolf asked his dad if he could hunt too, but his father told him that he couldn’t. His father also told him that when he is ten there will be a bear hunt.
The days past and White Wolf turned nine. Then more days past and White Wolf turned ten. It was the big day. White Wolf was the first one to start hunting. He saw some bear tracks. he followed them into a cave. He saw a big, big bear. He took his bow and arrow, but the big bear woke up and chased him up a tree. White Wolf was scared. His sister saw him in a tree. She had some honey. The bear sniffed the air hungrily. The bear started to climb down the tree. Sunshine put the honey down and grabbed a nearby vine. She threw one end of the vine to her brother. White Wolf started to climb down. When White Wolf got down he went back to the village with his sister and he never ever went on a bear hunt on his own again.
